of后面可接的属性名词，所以不可数，不加冠词，如：
a man of ability：有才能（能力）的人；
a man of action：活动家实干家 ；
a man of character：有个性的人；有骨气的人;
a man of determination：有决断的人。
有些复数名词也表性质，比如letters既可以是letter(字母)的复数，但自己也是正儿八经的单词，其含义为literary knowledge, ability, or learning, 所以：
a man of letters的含义是“文学家，文人，作家，学者”。
文人和作家码字母，常态是很多很多字母，所以用letters来表示“学识、文字能力”。
类似的表达中的复数，如
a man of ideas(有思想的人)；
a man of his hands(有掌控力的人)；hands的含义是 power or keeping。
a man of many parts(多面手)；parts的含义是personal abilities or talents
a man of varied powers（多才多艺的人）；
a man of many abilities (多才多艺的人）；
a man of set opinions(固执己见的人)；
a man of many talents（非常有才能的人）;
a man of many words（话多的人 ）;
a man of few words（沉默寡言的人，少言寡语的人 ）;
a man of means(有钱人); means含义是considerable wealth。
偶尔也与加冠词的，如：
a man of the world（阅历丰富的人）。这不是所有格，所以the world的主体感不能太强。
a man of the people(尤指政治家) 体恤民情者；体察民意者
说明：这里的man，都可以换成woman。
